On May 20, 2025, Dr. Vildan Taşlı Karabulut, a faculty member of the Department of Business Administration at Yalova University, held an online meeting with David Hong and Mollie Mei, students from Hong Kong International School, who are conducting a project on the education of refugee children. The meeting focused on topics related to refugee children’s education and skill development.
The meeting covered topics such as challenges and opportunities in the education of refugee children, the balance between children's academic orientation and practical skills acquisition, the importance of digital skills for refugees, essential future skills and effective teaching methods for refugee children. The importance of teaching transferable skills—those that refugees can carry with them and apply in different countries—was also emphasized, particularly in relation to access to employment.
Dr. Vildan Taşlı Karabulut shared insights and findings from her field research conducted with Syrian refugees in Turkey, highlighting ways to support skill development within the local context. The discussion underlined the importance of equipping refugees with the necessary competencies to facilitate their integration into the labor market and help them build a sustainable future.
